Nostalgia & The Kardashians

I am entirely re-invested in The Kardashians again, guys. I don’t know what to tell you, their marketing team know what they’re doing! We are die hard reality TV fans (in fact, my husband and I initially bonded over out mutual love of The Hills - and it’s predecessor, Laguna Beach) so I’m not sure what switched us off back in 2016 but we lost interest and never looked back.

I don’t know if it’s the Pete Davison of it all or Kourtney’s whirlwind romance (we love The Lord so I’m not sure on the latter) but I really wanted to watch that new Disney show and there was just no way I could without going all the way back to catch up on what we’d missed.

All this being said, I’ve been missing a lot from the ‘old days’ recently. I decided to take another shot at podcasting, a format I always enjoyed but that was difficult to sustain when relying on the logistics of involving other people. I am keeping it very casual with a vlog-style, pick up a mic and chat when I feel like it vibe which is working for me and some of you seem to be inexplicably enjoying it.

I’ve been listening to an audio book my blogger, Jacey Duprie that has me feeling super nostalgic for the early 2010s of blogging - which is what brings me here to you tonight..

..and I have completely lost my mojo with YouTube. I think in part it’s frustration with the algorithms and knowing the platform isn’t showing my content to everyone who’s subscribed to it but it feels like there’s more to it.

I’ve been struggling recently with some mental health niggles and maybe it’s (undiagnosed) ADHD burn out but I need to find my vlogging raison d’etre again

Listening to Jacey’s book, Liking Myself Back, has sparked something in me this week and reminded me that my joy was always in the spontaneity. It was the whenever and however often I felt like it feel that hooked me in the first place and this ‘must post at this time or nobody will see it’ malarkey really sucked the life out of something that used to be fun.

As I said in a recent podcast episode, I do have a tendency to make something fun in to work in order to feel good about justifying my time., but them of course it’s no longer fun.. it’s work.

So along with the Kardashian Klan I am inviting the WHENEVER, WHEREVER Shakira spirit back in to my online life. I have some products I’ve been dying to review and when the mood strikes (be it 3am or in my lunch break) I am going to throw them on my face and see what happens.

IN THE MEANTIME

If you’d like to catch up with my self indulgent ramblings, there are already 10 episodes of my leaving voice notes on my phone and calling it a podcast.
