NuFace - The At Home Face Lift

I am vain, I know that might be a shock given how often I present myself on the internet looking like I’ve been dragged through a hedge but I am VAIN. I spend more time that the average person looking at my face, thanks to thie internet gig, and I am increasingly hard on that face with each year that passes.

I was talking to someone the other day about this and realised the irony of my position on injectables. Beyond the concern that it could go awry, the reason I haven’t given botox a go yet is that I want to be able to say I’ve had nothing done. I want people to be shocked when I’m a fresh faced fifty and can say I’ve NEVER had any medical intervention.

Much as we say we’re doing it ‘FOR US’, these efforts are ultimately designed to affect how other people see us and that in turn affects the way we feel about ourselves. So my reason to have botox is that other people would think I look good for my age.. and my reason for not having it is so those same people can’t judge me for having work done.

I know some of you will disagree but be real, self acceptance is an inside job and vanity places value in the opinions of others. Sad but true and in the interest of transparency, I’m leaning in to it. I’m not working on myself, I’m trying all the gadgets that promise the same results at home.

NuFace has been on my radar for about a year. For my 36th birthday I decided to treat myself to a light therapy mask. My research told me that Current Body was the best for the money and, although I was entirely prepared to part with the cash, they very kindly offered to send one to me.

The reviews I liked most were those of Angie (Hot & Flashy - anti-ageing GURU!) and she often compared the red light mask to her micro current devices such as NuFace. Her overall opinon was that if you could only have one the mask was it BUT that she used her NuFace every day and still recommended it highly.

I shelved it for another time and when I saw the device on super sale for Black Friday I decided to give it a go. I’m calling it an early 37th birthday present and plan to collect these various at-home gadets until I finally give in to the poison syringe at 40.

First thing’s first, Current Body have a 90 Day money back guarantee. I’ve read comments under reviews from people who used it once and hated it. I totally get it, these are not for everyone and sometimes you realise straight away the time commitment is not for you.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE GUARANTEE!

I saw so many mixed reviews, I was going in with the plan to hammer it for a month and if it wasn’t for me, I was sending it back - but when I tell you it was love at first use..

I saw an IMMEDIATE difference. It lifted my jowls and my cheek bones and gave my face structure that it’s just never had. I have what I refer to as ‘ a lot of face’, all of my features are in the centre and it’s just a lot of cheek space with very little holding it up. People who age well tend to have fantastic bone structure and I’d resigned myself to my own face steadling collapsing in to my neck over time.

I honestly expected so little from a 5 minute facial massage but I sent a photo to a friend and she was so impressed she wanted the link.

NuFace recommend that you use the device every day at first and then 3 - 5 time a week. Most die hard fans use it daily and seem to be very realistic about the lasting effects. This is a temporary lift so a morning once over with your skincare routine is the best time to use it. That said, I’ve also heard people say they’ve noticed a more lasting result when using it for an extended period. I can see it being like sit ups.. you can get a six pack but if you stop working out, you don’t get to keep it.

There’s so little to back up what it really does but my experience in the past 6 weeks and the reviews I’ve seen from long term users are enough for me to endorse it. The way I see it, if you’re considering injectables and looking for a less invasive alternative, this is a fraction of the cost. You could spend hundreds on botox or filler only for it to wear away, even if you love it. The NuFace is £131 right now and you can send it back if you don’t enjoy it.

Here’s a short video showing the product in use. It comes with a hyalauronic acid gel which conducts the current. I will be trying some cheaper alternatives once this runs out but this doubles as a nice skincare product if you do prefer to stick with their branded gel. It' isn’t at all painful, I do 5 minutes on each side of my face while I drink my morning coffee and it’s a great way to wake up my face before the rest of my skincare or applying makeup.
