Rimmel Lasting Finish - Nude
Longer lasting foundations tend to be on the heavy side and much as I want longevity the caked on look isn't really what I'm after. Because of this I wasn't a huge fan of the original Lasting Finish from Rimmel but this new 'Nude' version is MUCH nicer. It still has good staying power and moderate oil control but the coverage is lighter and the finish is less dry and powdery. The bottle is glass with a pump to meter out doses, most drugstore foundations offer this now but I still think it's worth mentioning in case any of the powers that be read this.. we like a pump, okay? Another thing I'm really happy about is the new lighter shade that seems to be available across most/all Rimmel foundations now. I'm told this has been out for a while in some areas (some say forever but I'm not convinced) but I know that Light Porcelain is new to my local stores. The previous palest shade was too dark for me so I didn't try many of the Rimmel formulas but now I can get them to somewhat match my pale skin you can expect to see more reviews of their range from me!
The coverage is medium, you can still see freckles and redness peeking through which is what I like.. I prefer to layer concealer in the necessary areas than wear a mask of foundation however if you were so inclined you can build this up to a higher coverage without it looking like you're wearing 10 layers of makeup. With it being long lasting it does settle a little in to fine lines and pores but I find that this looks worse just after applying than it does throughout the day.. the oils in my skin seem to make this disappear and give a dewy (rather than shiny) finish by lunch when I tend to powder again. I don't seem to suffer than initial not so perfect finish when applying with a beauty blender however.. I used a budding brush for these photos and much as it's easier it definitely doesn't give the perfect base. If you can be bothered (or you happy to get ready near a water source) the beauty blender is where it's at for these drier formulas for sure.
I would say the foundation lasts a full work day, I'm not sure 25hrs is accurate as by the time I'm going to bed at night it definitely looks worse for wear but a couple of things can help extend the wear time. Two products I rely on when it comes to long lasting foundation - 1. De Slick setting spray from Urban Decay (I have the Makeup Revolution one ready to test so if that's anywhere near as good you'll hear about it soon) and 2. Maybelline Superstay 24 Powder, it's waterproof and has decent coverage on it's own.. it's practically a compact powder foundation. I apply this as a setting powder with a brush in the morning and then with a sponge at midday to top up my foundation and eliminate the inevitable shine. The foundation alone is good but if you're looking for other products to help on an extra long day they are my current picks!
If you'd like to see any other specific base reviews from the Rimmel range now I can actually get a colour match let me know, I feel like I'm discovering a whole new brand! - available online here for £7.99
