Blurred Reality
So a couple of months ago I was invited to a couple of premieres in quick succession which all sounds very glamorous but I'm here to tell you, it's not. Before thie summer I'd never attended anything like this so I had no idea what to expect but I definitely thought you had to dress up. The first time I wore a fancy dress and got my hair done only to arrive on the WHITE carpet to a sea of jeans and tshirts and be ushered through to the cinema quick as a flash. There's very little time to take pictures or feel like you should be there at all! The second time (above) I was prepared. Emma and I were able to bring along our husbands which was cool so we made a day of it and dressed accordingly. We wanted to look nice but be comfortable, this time we hung around the 'pens' that surround the red carpet area so we could watch the celebs before going in.. I didn't know this was a thing but if you ever find yourself with a ticket to something I'd highly recommend it.. if you don't then guess what? you can still go! It's open to the public and if you get there early enough you can get pretty close to the action.. and that's the whole point really, isn't it?
*What I'm Wearing*
Dress - Primark (OLD!!!) / Jacket - Topshop / Boots - H&M / Bag - Cambridge Satchel Large Pushlock / Scarf (label and all) - H&M
It's easy to get carried away and think you 'belong' at things like this but it's really just a big show, the celebs don't want to be there and the amount of people having everything and anything signed clearly to sell on later is crazy. You have a mix of people in ball gowns and louboutins and leggings and uggs (depending on how important they are/think they are) so it's great people watching but for the most part you're a seat filler! All that being said it's still a really cool experience and I would definitely go again if the film (or star) was of interest but when you see bloggers feeds full of fancy events just know it's rarely as fancy as it seems! For years I've seen people attend events that I'd die to be invited to and then when I do get the opportunity it never quite meets those expectations. It definitely stems from the new 'Fear Of Missing Out' culture that social media has spawned, we're only sharing our highlight reels which isn't entirely healthy but is very much the new normal, a blurred reality.
