La Montaña / Alfredo's Cafe
This is not a brand I'd heard of but the vintage poster inspired artwork and unusual fragrance selection was enough to draw me in to browse a little. The candle I chose happens to be their newest offering, Alfredo's Cafe. Not sure I love the name but the notes are Black Tobacco, Coffee & Brandy so I can't say it doesn't fit. I've been enjoying more masculine scents such as this recently (we have a whiskey reed diffuser in the bedroom I keep forgetting to post about and it's lush) so I hoped this would hit the spot and I wasn't disappointed. If you have many noses to please a more neutral fragrance such as this likely to please a broader audience than say a floral number and everyone from my husband to my 3 year old has given this their seal of approval. It does have a smokiness to it but if you like Feus De Bois and such this is much more subtle and with the added coffee for depth and brandy for sweetness it's a really lovely home fragrance.
I have spring candles I love because they're fruity or fresh and I would actually wear them as perfumes if I could but this is not one of them. It doesn't feel particularly seasonal, you might think it's more suited to Autumn/Winter (although we're kind of still there in the UK, aren't we?) but it's really not. So tough to describe because as I say it's so unusual, it's a real scent rather than a synthetic/super strong. There are just 4 candles to choose from from La Montaña and they're not cheap but they promise 40 hours burn time and offer scented paper 'swatches' so you can have a sniff before purchasing.. I wish more candle companies would offer something similar, I mean c'mon.. my description alone does not tell you whether you will like this, you need to smell it for yourself! I read the reviews however and someone described it as comforting which I would never had got to alone but I absolutely agree with. A very comforting, warming home scent.
