Return Of Beauty Blogging / Weekly Wind Down 3.4

After the great instagram crash of 2019 I saw lots of chatter on twitter (faithful twitter) about the need to preserve our own sites. YouTube owns my video channel, instagram owns my grid.. if they decided to take it all away tomorrow they could. I knew this but because this internet lark isn't my fulltime gig I never worried too much about it.I associated that panic with money and sustaining a 'full time blogger' lifestyle but when insta/facebook took a dive, I realised that's not what I'd miss. I'd rather lose both of those platforms than twitter because twitter is where my 'friends' are. It's where I go to spend time and chat. YouTube is where I go to ramble and then later to respond to your ramblings about that ramble. It's the engagement I'd miss.Blogging hasn't been comments driven for a long time, perhaps since instagram made it big, and so I think that's why I drifted away from it. I always kept a small fire burning but I wasn't excited to come back and see what people said about what I posted because it was rare that they said anything. Effectively it felt like shouting in to the wind.. and sometimes I had things to say!I was chatting (on twitter) with some fellow bloggers this week who all feel a resurgence coming in the blogosphere. People returning to old school written reviews, craving swatches and comparisons like it's 2009. I had already started to work my way through a pile of new beauty products I had to review. I didn't feel like mini reviews on insta were all that popular and I tend to only put something in a video if I love it.. so lots of stuff was slipping through the net, un-featured.Once upon a time I took an evening a week to write all of my blog content, I was organised, I worked 4 days a week and had a small baby. I was posting 5 times a week across 2 YouTube channels and none of it felt like work. If I had to trace back where it all started to crumble I think I could draw a correlation with the mass adoption of instagram. In summary, I am officially bringing back the beauty blog and in #nobuy news, I accidentally won a sequin camo bomber jacket on eBay - but I'll tell you about that next week
